Records of the U.S. Court of Claims. 1835 - 1984. Naval Bounty Case Dockets

1898-1903

This series consists of dockets which recorded the papers filed and proceedings held in naval bounty cases. Generally, each docket lists the case number, name of the claimant, his rank and vessel, place and date of engagement, attorney name, and dates of filing in the case. These claims are from the Spanish-American War and were founded on an act of Congress passed in 1864 providing for the payment of prize money to U.S. Navy officers and crews. Cases 1-11 relate to claims made by or for all individuals participating in a particular engagement. Case numbers 12-50 were not assigned. Case 51 concerns Commodore George Dewey and the remaining cases 52-3990 are individual claimants.
